What are Customs Procedure Codes (CPC) and why should you use them?
You would be right to assume that the vast majority of UK exports to countries outside of the European Union are derived from commercial sales. However with that said there are still plenty of other reasons why UK based businesses and individuals export goods, such as; exporting goods temporarily for repair or for a trade show, some business may need to send commercial samples, or you may be a private shipper that just wants to send a birthday present to a friend or relative. Whatever it may be, it is important to know that your reason for shipping can have just as big an impact on how customs treat your shipment as the nature of goods themselves and indeed their worth.
CPC codes are unique numbers you can declare on your customs invoice that reflect a given reason for exporting and ensure that a consignment is processed correctly by customs both here in the UK and in the destination country.
